Espresso Buying Guide exists for one reason: buying home espresso gear is harder than it should be. Manufacturer pages all claim "café quality," review giants rank whoever pays them most, and forum advice assumes you already own a $2,000 grinder.

So we do the hands-on work ourselves. We buy the machines, grinders, and accessories, run them through real home-barista workflows, track what they actually cost once the setup is complete, and publish what we find — the good and the bad.

Our principles

Hands-on or it doesn't ship. We never review gear we haven't used ourselves for at least two weeks of daily brewing.

No pay-to-rank. Affiliate commissions fund the testing, but they don't buy placement or inflate scores.

Priced like you pay. We score value on the full setup cost — machine plus the grinder and accessories you actually need — not the headline price.
